In January 2008, Hangzhou Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital and Hangzhou First People’s Hospital adopted integrated operation mode, and established “Hangzhou High Risk Maternal Treatment & Rescue Center” as approved by Hangzhou Municipal Health Bureau so as to further improve the treatment and rescue level of critically pregnant and lying-in women by relying on the comprehensive medical advantages of Hangzhou First People’s Hospital. Each year, the hospital received 400 critically ill maternal patients, over 50% of which came from other cities than Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province and even other provinces in China and over 98% of which got successful rescue. Remarkable results have been achieved in the treatment of critically ill pregnant and lying-in women and the maternal mortality rate has been reduced, promoting the smooth development of women and children health care throughout the province. The hospital has a high influence and popularity in Zhejiang Province and its surrounding areas.

With the opening up of the two-child policy, the number of childbirth and the number of elderly pregnant and lying-in women have increased year by year. With commitment to the idea of “devoting all for mother and children’s health, and devoting to all mothers and children’s health” and in order to effectively ensure the safety of pregnant and lying-in women and other patients, our hospital successfully set up ICU Department in January 2019 after active preparations and implemented the mode of managing patients by second-line physicians in Gynecology and Obstetrics and ICU physicians together. The department boasts 1 associate chief physician and 8 nurses. ICU laminar-flow ward has 13 rescue beds, 5 of which are available now. The department is equipped with advanced adult monitoring system, Dräger medical suspension system, 6 Mindray N17 monitors (support monitoring of pulse indicator continuous cadiac output (PiCCO)), 4 middle and top grade respirators including Maquet Servo-s and Mindray SV300, 1 Fisher & Paykel AIRVO2 oxygen therapy humidifier, 1 Philips FM20 fetus ECG monitor, 1 Radiometer ABL80FLEX blood gas analyzer, as well as microscale infusion pump, microscale blood glucose meter, Siemens mobile DR machine, bedside color Doppler ultrasound machine and other advanced equipment, and can carry out a number of new technologies, such as Swan-Ganz catheter hemodynamic monitoring, PICCO hemodynamic monitoring, total parenteral nutrition (TPN) and severe disease ultrasonography.

At present, the hospital has been sending second-line attending physicians in Gynecology and Obstetrics and professional nurses in ICU to the ICU Department of Hangzhou First People’s Hospital for further study. The person in charge of the department once learnt from chairmen of ICU association in Anhui and Zhejiang Provinces and has worked in the team of the chairman of ICU association in Hangzhou for many years. With strong ability in diagnosing and treating common diseases of ICU Department, the person in charge has already presided over two projects at city and department level, published many papers on SCI and Chinese core journals and several medical monographs, and is committed to the diagnosis and treatment of critically ill patients, and to your health and safety during the perinatal period. 

In recent years, the hospital has actively improved the treatment and rescue process, implemented hierarchical treatment, multi-disciplinary unity and cooperation, and teamed up with the ICU Department of Hangzhou First People’s Hospital to successfully rescue a large number of critically ill pregnant and lying-in women from inside and outside the province, including those with prenatal and postpartum massive hemorrhage, shock, DIC (disseminated intravascular coagulation), severe preeclampsia complicated with multiple organ failure, HELLP syndrome, amniotic fluid embolism, acute fatty liver, sinister placenta previa, uterine rupture, ectopic pregnancy caused rupture and massive hemorrhage shock caused by various causes; Treatment of various critical complications: pregnancy complicated with severe pneumonia, acute severe pancreatitis, severe pulmonary hypertension, fulminant myocarditis, hyperthyroidism crisis, various critical hematological diseases and ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome) caused by various causes, etc.
